The car isn’t legal for the street, only for track use, but it is for sale. Porsche is auctioning the car through RM Sotheby’s at the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta on October 27, 2018.
The RM Sotheby’s “Porsche 70th Anniversary Sale” is a single-marque auction with some 70 street and racing Porsches. Auction proceeds are being donated to the Ferry Porsche Foundation in Germany, a non-profit dedicated to education, social issues, and youth development established earlier this year to help celebrate Porsche’s 70th birthday.
Project Gold took a year and a half to build. The body shell went through the corrosion protection and painting process applied to today’s production Porsches. Porsche Classic then assembled and tuned the car, adding a new, 450-hp 3.6-liter twin-turbo flat-six to deliver performance similar to a production 993 Turbo S. The chassis number follows the last series-production street-legal 993 Turbo. It rolled off the production line in 1998.
It’s no secret that 993s remain sought after today. It was the first 911 with an aluminum multilink rear suspension, and the 993 Turbo was the first to use a twin-turbo engine.
